Layout planning in dashboard building is the process of organizing visuals, KPIs, and filters in a logical and user-friendly manner.
It determines where each element is placed, how much space it gets, and the order of information.
Good layout ensures that the most important metrics are immediately visible and supporting details are easy to access.
In one project, we planned the layout so that:
Top: Key KPIs
Middle: Trend and comparison charts
Bottom: Detailed tables and drill-down visuals
Slicers/filters: On the side for quick interaction
Proper layout improves readability, reduces clutter, and guides the user’s attention naturally.
It is a crucial step before adding visuals to ensure clarity and usability.
