- Data granularity refers to the level of detail in the data I work with. In my projects, I’ve handled both highly granular data like transaction-level sales records and summarized data like monthly revenue. Granular data helps when I need detailed analysis, such as identifying customer behavior patterns or root causes. However, it increases data volume and processing time, which can slow reporting. For executive dashboards, I usually aggregate data to a higher level for clarity and faster insights. Choosing the right granularity depends on the business question. A limitation is overloading stakeholders with too much detail. As an alternative, I often use drill-down dashboards to balance summary and detail.
