What is dashboard versioning and why is it important?

Dashboard versioning is the practice of maintaining controlled versions of dashboards whenever changes are made.
In my project, we maintained version history in Power BI service and SharePoint to track metric logic changes.
It helps us track who changed what and when, especially when KPIs are modified.
If a stakeholder questions a number, we can compare with the previous version and identify the change quickly.
It prevents confusion when multiple analysts are working on the same dashboard.
It also helps in rollback if a new change breaks calculations or visuals.
From a governance perspective, it ensures controlled deployment from Dev to UAT to Production.
Overall, it improves transparency, accountability, and trust in reporting.
