Data extraction is the step where we pull raw data from source systems into the BI environment.
This usually includes databases, APIs, and flat files like Excel or CSV.
The focus is on getting the right data with correct filters, not transforming it yet.
In my project, we extracted sales and customer data from a SQL Server CRM system.
We scheduled daily extractions to match business reporting needs.
Any extraction issues like missing rows were logged and validated with source teams.
This step ensures BI reports start with reliable and complete raw data.
