What is cycle time analysis?

Cycle time analysis is the process of measuring the time taken to complete a task from the moment work starts until it is finished.
In my project, I tracked cycle time for user stories from “In Progress” to “Done” in Jira.
For example, if development started on March 1 and the task was completed on March 5, the cycle time was 4 days.
I analyzed average cycle time across sprints to identify performance patterns.
We noticed some stories were delayed due to dependency on data team approvals.
After introducing early dependency tracking during sprint planning, average cycle time reduced by 20%.
This helped improve sprint predictability and team efficiency.
Cycle time analysis mainly helps in identifying bottlenecks and improving delivery speed.
