A conformed dimension is a dimension that is shared across multiple fact tables with the same structure and meaning.
It ensures consistency in reporting across different subject areas.
For example, Date dimension is commonly shared between Sales, Inventory, and Finance facts.
In one project, Customer dimension was used in both Sales and Support fact tables.
We maintained the same surrogate keys and attributes across both models.
This allowed leadership to compare revenue and complaint trends by the same customer group.
Conformed dimensions help maintain a single version of truth.
They are important in enterprise data warehouse design.
