The Power BI mobile app is primarily used to give users on-the-go access to their dashboards and reports, enabling real-time data monitoring and quick decision-making from anywhere. It’s available on both Android and iOS, and it connects directly to the Power BI Service, allowing users to view and interact with the same reports they would on their desktop or web version — but optimized for smaller screens.
In my experience, this was extremely valuable in a logistics project I worked on, where field managers needed to track delivery performance metrics in real time. We published a Power BI dashboard showing delivery delays, route efficiency, and driver performance. Using the mobile app, managers could open it directly on their phones, filter by region or date, and even set up data alerts for KPIs like “on-time delivery rate drops below 90%.” This helped them take immediate corrective action instead of waiting for end-of-day reports.
One challenge I faced was layout optimization. Not all desktop visuals look good on mobile — some charts or tables were too detailed and required scrolling. To handle that, I used the Power BI Mobile Layout View in Desktop, where you can design a specific version of the report tailored for mobile screens. It allowed me to rearrange visuals for better readability and usability.
A limitation of the mobile app is that complex visuals or custom visuals might not render as smoothly as on desktop, especially when internet connectivity is weak. Also, editing or building reports isn’t supported — it’s mainly for viewing and interaction.
As an alternative, for executive summaries, I’ve sometimes created lightweight dashboards in Power BI Service with just key metrics and cards, which load faster on mobile. But overall, the Power BI mobile app is excellent for keeping stakeholders connected to their data in real time, especially for teams that work in the field or travel frequently.
